Appleアップル製品にそなわった機能により危機を脱した例は数々報告されていますが、米バージニア・ビーチ在住の女性がiPhoneの緊急SOSのおかげで性的暴行犯から救われた顛末が報じられています。この出来事は、場所は現地のオーシャンフロント、日曜日の午前2時に起こりました。匿名希望の女性はUberで配車して帰宅しようとしていたところ、見知らぬ男性が近づいてきて「電話をなくしてしまいまして……探すのを手伝ってもらえませんか？」と頼まれたとのこと。砂の中に落としたかもしれないというため、自分のiPhoneを貸して「Find My iPhone」アプリを使わせたものの、上手く行きませんでした。そのとき相手がiPhoneでアプリを使う方法を知らないことに気づき、身の危険を悟ったと語っています。そこでiPhoneを取り返して逃げようとしたところ、相手は後ろから立ち上がって顔をつかみ、手で口を覆いました。女性が悲鳴を上げようとすると地面に顔を押しつけられ、口を握りしめて黙らせようとしたとのことです。激しく争っていったん姿勢を立て直したとき、女性はとっさにiPhoneの緊急SOS機能を使おうと思いつきました。電源ボタン（サイドボタン）と音量ダウンボタンを同時に押したままにすると（カウントダウンの後に）地元警察につながり、テキストメッセージで位置情報も送られたしだいです。そしてパトカーのヘッドライトが砂上を走っているのが見えると、性的暴行犯はビーチを走り去ることに。その後に警察は追跡して、無事に逮捕にいたっています。今回の証言で注目すべきは、女性が性的暴行犯と争っている間に、電話から聞こえた情報を元にディスパッチ（警察の通信指令係）担当者が警官らに適切な助言を出せたたことです。担当者は女性が水について話したのを聞いたため、近くのホテルではなく水際に行くよう指示したとのことです。女性も「全ての条件が私に幸いしましたが、いつも起こるわけではなく、これほど幸運な人もそうはいません。もしも積極的にできることがあれば、それをすべきです」と振り返っています。なお今回の女性が取った手順はiPhone 8以降のものですが、iPhone 7以前の場合はサイドボタンあるいは上部のボタンをすばやく5回押してから「緊急SOS」スライダをドラッグする必要があります。画面を見ずに作業が完了する前者の方が、いざというとき頼もしいかもしれません。 広告掲載についてのお問い合わせはad-sales@oath.com までお知らせください。各種データなどはこちらのメディアガイドをあわせてご覧ください。 関連キーワード: apple, crime, emergency, iphone, sos
